Today was a focused day of utilizing the screen size on the iPad pro. I have been a long time Evernote user & Penultimate two apps that are always installed on my iPads.
Evernote is a cross-platform, app designed for note taking, organizing, and archiving. The app allows users to create a “note” which can be a piece of formatted text, a full webpage or webpage excerpt, a photograph, a voice memo, or a handwritten “ink” note.
While Penultimate is a note taking tool that you use a stylus/Pencil to write notes.
The great thing with these two apps is that your handwritten notes get automatically synced to your Evernote folders. This allows you to search for text, and Evernote recognizes your handwriting allowing it to be searched.
OK if you haven’t fallen asleep by all that long winded explanation, I’ll show you what I mean.
1st step write a note using Penultimate.
Then all we need to do is now search for a word that was written in Evernote….
You can see from this search in Evernote for the word ‘hello’, down the left hand side it lists down all the documents saved with the word, but also anywhere I have written it in a note (such as the one above).
So what? Seriously you don’t see the benefit of this! OK let me explain….
Just think of all your handwritten notes over the years, and c’mon we all still love to write things down (as well as type).. But writing things at times can be handy, especially if you need to draw a diagram, or a small plan. It can be quicker and more ‘meeting’ friendly to jot down some notes etc… Now imagine all these notes, doodles, plans etc can be searched using a computer! Well, this does exactly that!
What is best, that these apps are free! Well, Evernote does charge but you have to be a ‘big’ user to get to that stage.
For a teacher and in a classroom, this is pretty cool! I had my whole class use Evernote and email work to me, which then automatically appears in Evernote. What? I didn’t mention that? WELL, yes.. You can email notes straight into your Evernote folders.

Two new apps installed today on the Pro – Aviary Photo Editor & Photo Editor. I prefer Aviary over Photo Editor, both are pretty good picture editors with a heap of tools.
Day 4 tomorrow…. See what that brings…
